Short answer: A spa typically adds $18,000 to $35,000 to a custom pool in DFW, depending on style and finishes. With our pools starting at $75,000, a custom pool with a spa usually starts around $93,000 to $110,000 before outdoor living.
Why add a spa
A spa makes the backyard usable year-round. In North Texas, that means warm soaks on cool fall nights and winter evenings, and a place to relax even when the pool is too cold for swimming. A raised spa also gives the pool a focal point and the sound of moving water.
The three main spa styles
1. Spillover spa: typically adds $18,000–$28,000
Set at or slightly above the pool, with water spilling into it. Works in most layouts and seats four to six people.
2. Raised spa: typically adds $22,000–$35,000
Raised 18 inches or more, with a tile or stone face and a spillway or sheer into the pool. More structure and finish work, more visual impact.
3. Detached spa: typically adds $25,000–$45,000
Freestanding, often near the house or the fire feature, sometimes with its own equipment. Best for larger yards with separate zones.
The math
Our custom pools start at $75,000. Adding a spillover or raised spa at $18,000–$35,000 puts a pool and spa at roughly $93,000 to $110,000 before water features, upgraded finishes or outdoor living. Add a patio cover or kitchen, and most projects land between $100,000 and $200,000. See the pricing guide.
Features worth considering
- A dedicated heater setup that heats the spa quickly without heating the whole pool.
- Automation so you can start heating the spa from your phone on the way home.
- Jets and seating planned for the people who'll actually use it, including a lounger seat.
- Lighting in the spa and the spillway for the evening.
- A fire feature nearby for cool nights.
Does a spa add time?
A spa adds some steel, plumbing and finish work, but it's built at the same time as the pool, so it typically adds days rather than weeks. Raised spas with stone faces add more masonry time.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to add a spa to a pool?
Typically $18,000 to $35,000 for spillover and raised spas, and $25,000 to $45,000 for a detached spa, depending on finishes.
Can I add a spa to my existing pool?
Often, yes, as part of a remodel, depending on the existing pool's structure, plumbing and equipment. It's easier and usually less expensive to build the spa with a new pool. See remodels and renovations.
Is a raised spa worth it?
If you want a focal point, the sound of water and some privacy, a raised spa is one of the most effective features you can add.
